“We live better at the epicenter of other people’s earthquakes than within our own tremor, and that is why I was so happy in another homeland.”
— Olivia Sudjic
Mixed is a series of collages and paintings that explores migration as a process of transformation, loss, and reconstruction. Through the layering of images, textures, and colors, the works capture the tension between what we leave behind and what we discover along the way.
To migrate is to inhabit the in-between, to move between identities, languages, and belongings. It is learning to transform the ocean into a puddle, to shorten distances through memory, to rebuild oneself with what survives the journey. Each piece becomes a visual testimony of this crossing, where fragility and resilience coexist.
In this series, mixte is not only a technique but an identity in itself: that of those who exist between multiple worlds, who transform uprootedness into a new way of inhabiting the world.
